Neha grew up in Talegaon Dabhade, a rural town close the bustling city of Pune. Neha's childhood was filled with a vibrant atmosphere of Hindustani Classical Music, with great musicans like Kishori Amonkar, Pt. Jasraj, Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur, Pt Mukul Shivaputra and many others who often stayed with the Mahajan family before and after their performances.
She later stayed in residence at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in 2013 and also undertook training in the Maihar tradition of Sitar playing from Shrimati Saswatti Saha. Shri Ravi Gadgil has been a mentor for Neha Since 2015. She has also been mentored by Ustad Zunain Khan, famous for his father's innovative Jafferkhani Baaj.

Neha started performing at a young age while touring with her father. Her solo performances have made a mark by her unerring grasp on the grammar of the raga and the soulfulness of her strokes.

She has collaborated with Ricky Martin on his album Pausa for 'Me Sangre' which won the Latin Grammy and was also nominated for the Grammy awards in 2021. She was awarded the Sitarvadak Yuva Puraskar by the prestigious Ganvardhan Pune in May 2025. Neha also holds a Masters Degree in Philosophy, from the Savitribai Phule University of Pune
